im thinking about buying an 83 pontaic firebird trans am, it has a 350 and its a 5 speed manual, its clean and needs vary vary little body work, paint is real nice and inside is also great, it needs a new e break, the dealer wants 5995 for it, l tryed to look up prices for it but l couldnt find much, so really l would like help from people that have owned one or has good info on the car. thanks

That is WAY !! to much money !! Have you looked at gas prices ? For 6000.00 you can find alot better car ! That car is only worth about 1200.00 or so ! In good condition. This is my opinion ! Good luck !

it is a piece of crap, believe me l used to have one 1980 formula and only gives me electric problems and also always overheating.
Also you must check the chassis on the steering box side, wich tend to break. this was a quality flaw of this car.
the price $ 1500 as max!

l would recommend looking for a 89 firebird , they have bigger disk brakes in the rear , no cold start injector ( tpi only ) , relatively bug proof car front to back .
There r some flaws that could use attention , as mentioned the front sub-frame at the steering gearbox r notoriously prone to cracking but a '' wonder bar'' from a salvage Iroc will bolt in & prevent problems . All third gens with t-tops could use subframe connectors .
Go to thirdgen.org ( u might have to join but it is free ) & look in their cars for sale section , I've seen some awesome firebirds with pristeen paint & interior with low mileage for about the same money .

l would NOT pay over 2000 on a 82 83 84 or 85 models even if the Paint is nice & drives good..
