Specifically the 4th generation Firebirds and Camaros. What can be added to make the engine go faster?Would it be cheaper to get a V8 instead of a V6?
okay some may have been confused when l said, v6 for v8.Would it be cheaper to buy a V6 camaro and make it faster or buy a V8 camaro which is already fast

It wouldnt be cheaper to do the swap but your not going to get the power out of the V6 like the V8 is going to give you. You can add headers, dual exhaust, performance chip ect.

(slap)..you could've had a V-8!

less weight, tune up, increased tire pressure , ECU chip, a well-crafted exhaust, and performance air filter will make the car feel quite a bit quicker for not a lot of money. If you want to spend more than $500 it would be worth doing the V8 swap

If ur gonna do a V-8, it would be much cheaper to just sell the V6 & buy one that came with a V8, because its not gonna take $500 to do a swap. That would just cover buying the new motor, u would still need a new rear axle, new transmission, relocate the motor mounts, new exhaust, not to mention upgrading the brakes so it will stop with a bigger engine. As for power adders for a V6 u could always get a cold-air intake, throttle body spacer or larger throttle body or both, headers, upgrade ur exhaust & put on higher flow mufflers, a tuning chip, shift kit for the trans. But if u have a lot of money to throw at it, u could always add a turbo or two. l think a turbo kit for a V6 F-body is like 3000.

try the Turbo kit for extreme maximium torque and it will increase 75% to 95% horsepower on all stock engines. They sell for just under $999.99 All years.

It all depends on the engine. There were 2 different V6 is used for 4th gens. The early ones used a 3.4 which is a dog, & the later ones used a 3.8. The 3.8 actually performs pretty well. Obviously V6 Fbodies take alot of crap, but the 3.8 can almost keep up with SN95+ Mustang GT is & completely waste V6 Mustangs. However, there is not much for performance on these cars aside from exhaust & intake. Like a previous answerer said, swapping to V8 would be a waste as u would be spending a lot of money for the engine & parts, & a lot if u need a shop to install it. the overall best choice would be to just sell it & get a LS1/LT1 Camaro or Firebird.

Buy the V-8. It performs better in every way, and the 5.7 Chevrolet motor truly lasts forever. l would just get the v-8, and the manual transmission.

Buy a V8 instead of a V6. l recently bought a 95 Trans Am for $4500, already has air intake & exhaust upgrades, & its running good. Its a monster too, in fact just a few hours ago l smoked a BMW after it did an illegal u-turn in front of me at a stop light! l can not even begin to tell u how much u would have to do to the V6 to even get it anywhere near the V8 in power. And then l would have to go on & tell u how u could do those same things to the V8 & make it even faster!!!
