Hello, l just bought a 2000 GTP and was wondering what the performance button does.Also, if l was drag racing someone at a stop light should l take traction control off and put the performance button on or should l leave traction control on with the button? Please let me know if you have any helpful information.

The button puts the vehicle into the performance mode. This changes the motor is fuel injection, timing, & also changes the transmissions shift points & the pressure on the clutch packs.
If u really want some fun, get the 3.4 pulley. stage one ECU. cold air intake, & do a SLP cat back exhaust. Leave the u-bend in the exhaust, it gives u the back pressure u need for low end off the line torque. Take a pass on headers unless u do the camshaft, larger fuel injectors & fuel pump etc.

Turn the traction control off, all it does is apply the front brakes to the wheel that breaks loose when u take off & wears out the pads prematurely.

l own a 2000 gtp. shifts a little harder, l did change the exhaust with the ubend removal, 3.4 pulley, ecm change, lowered w/ sprint springs, colder plugs, l did notice after the exhaust l did lose some of teh bottom end torque. but the power up grade made up for that, it helps if you change the ecm, you wont have to do anything other than plug and go...
