l do not have any problem during the day, only when it sits for an extended period of time.The vehicle only has 80,000 miles.Is it the starter going out?
It turns over but wo not start.No clicking sound or anything.

It could be a bad fuel pump or clogged filter. You are in the range of miles for that kind of trouble.

Adding on to the previous post on possible , u could have a bad set of plug wires, where u r collecting condensation to the point where the wires arc.

You could also be losing pressure in the fuel rail, where you're not getting sufficient pressure until after the pump has been running for a while - indicating a weak fuel delivery system, but it does not quite sound like that.

If its running fine after it starts, & performs well, try looking at ur ignition wires/system. A car that turns over just fine with no clicking indicates the starter is just fine!

Try a little test, BUT BE CAREFUL!! When its acting up, while somebody is turning it over, spray a little carb cleaner or starting fluid through the MAF ( just a puff - do not go crazy). If the engine starts to run, then dies, its ur fuel delivery system.

The next test is safer. While its acting up, get out & spray the wires with WD40 - particularly where they come close to each other & other metal parts. Then, turn it over. If it starts, then u know ur wires have gone bad.

The distributor cap/rotor is the next place to look - if there is tracking, & the ventilation is inadequate, u can get sufficient condensation to the point where ur ignition will short out until u turn it over enough to ''clean'' out the distributor. l do not know any test other than trying to replace it as part of a wires/cap/rotor maintenance that will prove that is the problem!
