My parents might be getting a new car in a couple years and they might give their old 97 sunfire. l learned to drive in the car so im real familiar with it and honestly its been pretty reliable, l have the intent to start rally racing soon. Think it can handle it? For at least a couple races?l just need something l can beat the shit out of till l get some experience.
Well l would be entering the stock league for beginners where u can have any unmodified car.

a sunfire as a rally car? ur kiddin right ? its a fwd drive car so no rallying for it, most powerful engine it has is a 150hp dohc engine with 150 lb ft torque.. thas not bad l mean u can take on civics and stuff if theyre not modded a lot but besides that its a slow piece of crap

A Pontiac sun fire it is not a rally car, its a familiar car l have one and it have a good engine you can fix to go better but only if you want more you have to put in there a lot of money and l think its better to look for another car like a sport car or a mitsubishi or a subaru

It may not be a top competitor, but it is got what a beginner rally racer needs: it is easy to find replacement parts for, can take a good beating, and is expendable. When learning to rally, these are much more important than its shear performance potential. l say go for it.

Good choice for a beginner rally car. FWD will certainly make the learning curve less steeper than it already is. With rallying (even just the navigational rallies), u will wear out ur car ridiculously fast so u definitely want a car that has tons of parts readily available & that no one else is hungry for. A Sunfire is very plentiful in junkyards so u might be able to nab yourself a parts car for free! The last thing u want is to get a car that is rare, RWD & high powered. All key ingredients to get u killed or seriously hurt.

It also had a somewhat reliable & straightforward engine so u can pick up the mechanical aspect of the sport as well (assuming u r not already versed in it).

l would suggest FWD, AWD & then when you're ready, the world of RWD rally driving. The latter can be extremely scary if u r not used to snap oversteer which can happen when u go from tarmac onto loose gravel. I've seen a classic Porsche 911 do donuts on hairpins that no other FWD or AWD car barely slid on.

Remember, to finish first, u must first finish!

It is a great car to start your rallye career. Once you gain some experience, you can move up, if you choose to stay in the sport.
