Ok l own a 2002 Trans Am now but the exhaust sounds different than the previous 2001 Trans Am l owned. the 2001 Trans Am was and Automatic but the 2002 Trans Am is a six speed. could this cause my exhaust to sound different or was it something that pontiac changed from a 2001 to a 2002??

it could be a change in the way they exhaust it. are the engines the same? that would make a difference.

nothing they are all diff

the engine is under a different load with the 4 speed auto so as a result the engine sound different. the six speed manual has closer gear ratio is which help the engine move the car more easily so this means less load on the engine= different sound. also both cars have the LS1 right? because if the 2001 had the LT1 than it would sound different because the LS1 has different intake and exhaust port shapes.

Rob is right on the money. There were no changes in the exhaust systems between years. Both model years have the venerable LS1 5.7L engine in them. The Trans Am WS6 package and Anniversary Edition came with better suspension components, slightly hotter cam profile, and ram air intake. Enjoy your stickshift, it is the only way to drive a hot rod!
