My dad has the basic pontiac solctice, the 170 hp one. Well, l plan on getting a new car soon and l was looking at the 0-60 times and l seen that a new civic si is faster than the solstice! And the pontiac is supposed to be a convertible sports car! It just seems pointless to make a slow car like that.

Sometimes it is the style, not the speed, that matters. They all look good in traffic, and 170 hp costs a lot less than 300 hp.

Some people like to go for looks rather than speed.

People have been driving around Mustangs for years, and they've not complained yet.

It is not necessarily how fast it goes, but how fun it is to drive. l have an 07 Corvette, but can not say it is more fun to drive than my '05 S2000 (240 HP), & definitely not more fun than my '01 MR2 (138 HP). If u think about it, it is pointless for me to have a Corvette when l can not open it up like l want to. You need a loooooong stretch to let 400 horses go running. l got my Vette for the looks & feel, l guess others do the same with less powerful cars. You think the Solstice was bad, what about everyone with the 90 is Miatas?

It depends where people r in their life; if they want a slow sports car or a fast one. Believe me, they would not build it if their was not a market for either slow or fast cars. If u ponder for just a moment the reality of purchasing a car it is as a necessity in some cases & a want in others. In the United States laws make it a necessity to go at a slow rate of speed, however, our desire for speed is as strong as any warm blooded German's. The U.S. freeway system is no autobahn. It is for this reason u will see a slow sports car in the States & that same car would not even be sold in Europe, at least not as a slow sports car.

Same reason the Mazda Miata is slow. Its not a huge priority. Its about the excellent handling and the open road in a roadster not going fast in straight line. Both of those cars will take your Civic Si to school on any type of race course except a drag strip. If you are really worried that its too slow get the Solstice GXP and blow past the Civic Si in the straight line too.

Coma;
'Slow' is a relative term. Your Civic might be faster, but it is not a convertible. Drop tops add weight, which will slow the car down. The bigger factor here is handling, because a car that accelerates fast but does not stop and turn well will lose to 'slower' cars on a road course. Here is where the Solstice will eat up the Civic.
And let me tell you - if you drive the Civic you will see it is no Solstice.

A ''sports car'' is generally defined as a two-seat convertible. That is it. Nothing is said about how fast they are. l have a convertible that has 285HP but it is a four-seater (even though the back seats are useless for actual adults) and l do not consider it a ''sports car.''

That is easy. Sports cars are not intended for drag racing. Not at all.
Any time you're tempted to think that the ''Sport'' in ''sports car'' is drag racing, just do not think that. That is not what a sports car is.

l agree completely. They do have a turbo version of the Solstice with 260. 260 is alot more respectable, but even thats going to get beat by any Mustang after 99 and any Camaro/Trans Am after 93.

bro its not always HP, that car is a seller for its design, handling, & uniqueness. also u do not sell only model/engine to go for a affordable two seater roadster, GM wants to let anyone buy one. if only the GXP version was made nobody be buying them as they can be priced over 35 grand, the car is very fun itself for the HP its got & besides if ur not happy with theres plenty of mods to get more power. sure the si has more power but look at the engine it has, its got a bigger displacement because thats the high performance package. compare the solstice to a regular civic below the si & its still 10 times better, serious people who want more performance go for the highest package, everyone else is just happy they own it simple as that

hey for the money u really cant complain.if u want it to go fast.save up & spend it on the performance package Solstice.plus my mother-in-law has 1 of those 170mph Solstice & I've taken it out on the hwy & for 170hp.its better then what my 78 Trans Am did w/188hp out of a stock 400ci 4bbl.granted the T/A was only a 3spd auto & the solstice has a 5spd manual.that makes a difference too in the transmission
now my question to u is.why would u wanna buy a Japanese POS anyways.its not even MADE IN AMERICA
