Whenever l crank up my car the RPM goes up to right below one is this normal for it not to be in motion just crankedup
it doesnt go back down when l crank it stays on that thing below one and moves whenever l drive l can be driving like 45 and the RPM be up to 3

Thats alright because its just an idle speed it does tell you the revolutions per minute when its running.. its all good at 800 rpm at idle.Sounds totally normal to me..Nice car

your not making much sense. if your driving at 45, your at 3,000 rpms? thats bad. are you sure your not in 3rd gear?

and what do you mean its just below 1 when you crank it up? you mean when you start it? the car is suppose to idle at 600 rpms. however if its cold, its not uncommon for it to idle higher, i'd say up to 1,200 rpms. but as the temp gauge moves up, the rpms go down.

what engine do you have? the 2.2, 2.4 or 3.4?

Check your spark-plugs your car is is ilde up very high.

From the Rpm is you mentioned l would agree that you may need to ''shift''. Your curb idle should be 600-1200 on start, 600-800 warm and at 45 mph in final gear (od) you should probably turn ..1500 RPM or somewher in there.

Based on my 99 Grand Prix 3.8L v6, yours should not be very different.
